What is curcumin?

Curcumin is a bright yellow chemical, produced by Curcuma longa longa plants. It is sold as an herbal supplement, cosmetics ingredient, food flavouring, and food coloring. Chemically, curcumin is a diarylheptanoid, belonging to the group of curcuminoids, which are natural phenols responsible for turmeric’s yellow color. It is a tautomeric compound existing in the enolic form in organic solvents and keto form in water.

There are many benefits of curcumin. Did you know that the main active ingredient of curcumin is turmeric? That means that curcumin has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. The turmeric content in Curcumin is around 3%.
